If a good picture is one that you look at for more than a minute as some famous photographer once said then this painting by Joseph Wright of Derby, who lived from 1734 to 1797, is of utmost quality as i was fascinated by it so much that i spent a good five minutes looking at it in London's National Gallery.
A splendid observation of how different people react to modern technology differently. At the time it was some weird technical aparatus, nowadays it might some other technology, the looks on our faces might be similar. At the National Gallery website, you can even get a high resolution version to scrutinize. The best option - should you have the opportunity - is to go there and see it of course.
